Five things you need on your wedding photography website

While your wedding photography website can totally be a place for you to show off your beautiful work to your mom and grandma, chances are you want it to help you build your brand and book clients too! As a wedding photographer, your website is one chance for you to show off your beautiful work and share your personality so potential brides feel compelled to work with YOU (and not some other photographer).

So what do you need to include on your wedding photography website to make sure you’re providing potential brides with the best impression of your business?

In this post I’ll share the top five things you need to include on your wedding photography website to convert visitors into bookings!

Location

Your location is going to be one of the first things brides look for on your website. Even if you’re based in one city and open for travel, they will want to see this. A lot of the brides planning their wedding may be unsure of how travel fees or availability changes with their location, so make sure this is easy for them to understand.

If your location is difficult to find, they are more likely to just move on to the next photographer. In this post I talked about how important it is for your website to be clear and easy to navigate, and this is especially true for finding your location. It should be one of the first things brides see when they land on your site, and should definitely not be hidden in a random sentence on your about page.

Here are a couple of suggestions for how you can display your location on your website:

  • Atlanta wedding photographer

  • Charlotte, NC wedding photographer always ready for travel

  • Destination & elopement wedding photographer open for travel

So where do you put this information on your website?

  • As part of your logo/tagline to display in the menu bar

  • In the footer of your website

  • Above the fold on your home page

  • In the about section of your home page

  • On your contact page

Note that you can easily use several of these options to make it even easier for your brides to find this information!

Galleries/Blog

Your potential brides are going to want to see what you’re good for. This means showing off your beautiful work either through a gallery page/portfolio page or a blog (or both!).

Your gallery or portfolio page should be heavy on the photos. While you totally could share every single session on this page, you probably shouldn’t. Chances are you are shooting some sessions that don’t entirely align with what you want to do moving forward. Remember that you will attract more of what you showcase, so only share your absolute favorites on the gallery page!

That’s why a blog can be super helpful. It allows you to share more of the story through words, show off the other vendors and link to their websites, and also helps you with content marketing. If you’re planning on using content marketing as part of your marketing strategy (think Pinterest sharing), creating a blog where you share weddings or other sessions and add in some text about the day, couple, etc can be super helpful. This type of blogging can also help with your SEO over time, which is definitely a huge benefit in a saturated wedding photographer market.

Investments

As you may be aware of, wedding photography packages can vary greatly from photographer to photographer. For the average bride, it can be difficult to tell the difference between $1200 wedding photos and $6000 wedding photos. Because of this you should definitely include some information about pricing or investments on your wedding photography website.

While there are factors that might change the price, like travel costs, extra hours of coverage, additional shooters, etc. you can always give the brides an idea of what they should plan to spend if booking with you. Depending on how your pricing structure works, there are several different ways you can word this on your website to make sure you don’t run into problems in the future.

Ways to showcase pricing on your photography website:

  • Investments starting at …

  • The average couple spends about …

  • Wedding package #1 is $XXXX

Contact Form

As you plan out your website it is important to remember that your readers are lazy. That is a fact I learned while studying marketing, and it is something I always try to remember. Make it as easy as possible for your website visitors to do exactly what you want them to do – send you an inquiry.

If you require your visitors to copy your email, head to their own email, send you a message, and wait on a response, chances are they will just move on to the next one.

On the contrary, if you have a contact form on your website that get’s straight to the point, is easy to understand & fill out, you have a better chance of getting their information! If you’re also able to send an auto-response to their inquiry letting them know how long it will take to hear back, you’ve already started building a solid client relationship!

What should be included in your contact form?

  • Only information you need to determine if they are a good fit or not!

  • Name

  • Phone number & email

  • Date they are looking at

  • Type of session (if you offer more than just one thing)

  • How did you hear about me

  • A free response box for “Anything else you’d like to tell me”

Keep it simple, my friend! No need to create an extensive questionnaire or ask for too much information!

About

While your about page is important, the points mentioned above are more important to take care of on your website to make sure you convert website visitors into leads. If your about page features the same generic sentences as all your competitors, this page is not serving you or your business in any way.

Your about page should be short and sweet and give the brides who want to get to know you better a chance to do so. On this page it would be a good idea to share things that make you unique, you know those weird quirky things you do, to make sure potential brides remember you.

Think about it from their perspective; if they read 10 websites that all mention how the photographer picked up a camera in their high school journalism class and have been hooked on photography ever since, followed by how much the photographer loves coffee, travel, and her dog – none of these will stick out.

A lot of times we all feel like we need to blend in online, but this is your chance to shine! Think about the little quirks you have, you know those slightly weird things you do that could really set you apart from the rest and use those on your website. You definitely don’t have to be perfectly polished, and the truer you can stay to yourself, the better your about page will be!

Whew! That was a lot.

But, my friend, those are the five things you should include on your wedding photography website and how you can make those changes today!
