Five Ways to Incorporate Video on Your Website

Video is the future, right? At least that’s what they say. And as a Squarespace web designer, I’ve been thinking a lot about ways you can incorporate video into your website to create a more engaging user experience.

June was all about video for The Rising Tide Society and Tuesday’s Together, and attending the meet up sparked the idea for this blog post!

Kasey and Tyler Helms from Point 200 led our session all about getting started with video as a creative, and as we dove into the topic, one of the questions that came up was how you can incorporate more video on your website as a creative entrepreneur (who’s not a videographer).

So, in this blog post I’ll share five ways you can incorporate video on your website as a creative entrepreneur!

Banner Video instead of hero image

Movement is an easy way to capture someone’s attention when they first land on your website. By featuring a video in the background above the fold of your website instead of a hero image, you’re drawing people in, forcing them to look, and maybe even encouraging them to read what you have to say.

I have to say I’m personally a huge fan of this. Tyler and Kasey showcase a highlight of their work on their website, but it is totally possible to do with a branding video or behind the scenes shots from your day to day work.

On Squarespace, this is super easy to accomplish. Instead of adding a background banner image, slide over to the video section and paste your YouTube URL!

Slideshow

We had a little bit of a debate on this one, but did end up agreeing that slideshows help create movement on your site, so it somewhat counts as video 😉

This is another great way to capture attention as website visitors travel through your site.

By incorporating a slideshow effect above the fold on your website you’re able to showcase several examples of your work without any effort required on the website visitor’s part.

Welcome video on your About Page

While a picture says a thousand words, sometimes a video is just better. If you’re feeling extra fancy, a welcome video on your About Page can be a great way to really make people feel right at home.

Not only does a welcome video allow people to get an even better idea of who you are, but it can also be easier to share your passion and personality through a video!

Process Video on our Services Page

Similar to the About Page, the Services page could also benefit from a video overview. If you’ve got a branding video or a video that shows off a little behind the scenes action (that you’re not already using for your hero banner), this would be a great place for it.

Your website visitors want to trust you, and they also want to be able to picture themselves working with you. If you’ve got a branding video of you showing off behind the scenes, it’s just so much easier for them to imagine you posing them or directing them on their wedding day!

Video Tutorials

Video tutorials may seem intimidating, but if you’re often sharing educational information through your website, this might be a great way to share more of who you are!

One of the biggest things that I’ve learned this year when it comes to video for creative entrepreneurs is that it doesn’t necessarily have to be super difficult.

Start small with a simple on-screen tutorial. Maybe you have a specific way of editing in lightroom, or maybe you’ve got a quick productivity tip on your computer that would be great to show off?

Capture it in a video and share in a blog post!

Video tutorials are also a great way to get our feet wet with video, to feel more comfortable, and hopefully, want to dive in deeper with more content for our audience!

Alright, y’all! Those are five easy ways that you can start incorporating more video content to your website.
